The Denair Middle School After School Program will run from the end of the school day to 6:00 PM. It is our goal to provide this program free of charge to all middle school students enrolled at Denair Middle School. The after school program is a partnership that includes the school district, parents, and the community in building the capacity of children to succeed academically and socially.

Our After School Program will provide:

· Homework assistance and tutoring

· Reinforcements for reading, writing, and math skills

· Fun educational games that are curriculum related

· Enrichment activities that will develop and increase students’ self-confidence, self-esteem, physical abilities and social skills

The enrichment activities are open to each student in the program and will vary based on what we have scheduled. The activities may involve a variety of art classes, functions at the school sites (carnivals, dances, performances, etc.), field and reward trips, and special interest classes (karate, dance, sign language, etc.). Please complete and return the parent survey to help us determine the programs in which you desire to have your student involved. Staff and students will also be completing surveys to determine programs to be offered.

To ensure the success of the program, we have outlined the following rules to be followed:

Attendance: Regular attendance is important and will be rewarded. Students are expected to attend and stay for the entire duration of the program each day, unless stated otherwise in their contract. Students who attend other school related programs that run during the time of the after school program, must sign-in with the after school programs first.

Discipline: Participation in the program is a privilege; the students must respect and abide by the rules of the program. Each student will be required to sign a Personal Responsibility Contract within the first week of participation of which they will be given a copy. Parents/Guardians are requested to review this contract and make certain that their child will honor it. Disruptive or disrespectful behavior toward other students and/or program staff will not be tolerated. We encourage parents/guardians to discuss concerns with the school administrator or site director.

Responsibilities: It is the responsibility of the student to bring homework to the program, the parents/guardians should make sure that they do, and review it when their child returns home daily. Our staff will do everything possible to have students’ complete their homework.

Students need to get to the program immediately after school is out. The program will not be responsible for students who have not signed-in and parents/guardians will be contacted immediately if a student does not sign-in. Three (3) times of truancy will result in conduct violation consequences listed below.

It is important that we are able to contact parents/guardians when needed; therefore it is the parent/guardians’ responsibility to notify the ASP staff of any contact information changes.

Parental Support: Though our staff is committed and qualified, parental support is needed to make the program the very best it can be! Parents/guardians are important partners in the program’s success and are more than welcome to attend or help with field trips, events and activities, and other ongoing projects.

In addition, school rules, policies, and procedures apply:

Conduct Violation Consequences: (per year)

1st- Warning, guidance, and parental contact

2nd- Letter home, Coordinator-Student conference

3rd- Coordinator-Parent conference

4th- Site Administrator- Parent/Student conference

5th- Dismissal from program

We encourage parents and guardians to read this information and rules with the entire family. Should there be any questions or concerns, please contact us. Together we can continue to have a successful after school program for the best interest of our children.
