DUSD has installed a Barracuda Spam Firewall in an attempt to reduce unwanted and unsolicited e-mail. The Barracuda Spam Firewall has been configured to scan all incoming e-mail for spam and viruses before it is delivered to your inbox.

The Barracuda Spam Firewall will be very effective in fighting spam, however no spam filter is one hundred percent accurate. Some spam messages may still pass through the filter while other legitimate e-mail messages may be quarantined. Messages determined to be spam are placed in a quarantine area so you can access them if you need to.

Every DUSD network user will receive a "Welcome To Barracuda" e-mail message once a spam message has been delivered to their Quarantine Inbox. Inside the e-mail is a link you can use to login into your Barracuda account. The link includes a randomly generated password. This is not your regular e-mail/network password. IMPORTANT: Change your password immediately to your regular e-mail/network password (using the preferences outlined below). Once your Barracuda Spam Firewall account has been activated, you will start receiving daily e-mails titled “Daily Spam Quarantine Summary.” These summaries list the messages quarantined by the Barracuda Spam Firewall and are a handy way to verify that no legitimate e-mail has been quarantined.

Upon logging into your Barracuda Spam Firewall account, you will be immediately placed into your Quarantine Inbox. If you have any messages that have been quarantined, you will have the following options:
  • Deliver Immediately send the message in question to your inbox
  • Whitelist Adds the sending e-mail address, exactly as it appears in the message, to your personal whitelist. All future messages from whitelisted e-mail address are not quarantined unless they contain a virus or a banned filetype.
  • Delete Deletes the selected message from your quarantine list. You cannot recover message that you have deleted.
  • Classify as Not Spam Classifies the selected message as not spam.
  • Classify as Spam Classifies the selected message as spam.

The Preferences tab contains the following options:

Whitelist/Blacklist This preference allows you to add e-mail addresses to Whitelist (always deliver) and Blacklists (never deliver).

Quarantine Settings This preference allows you to enable/disable the Quarantine function. "Yes" is recommended. Additionally, the Quarantine Notification preference allows you to select how often you receive the Quarantine Notification e-mails; daily, weekly or never. "Daily" is recommended.

Spam Settings This preference allows you to Enable/disable all
Barracuda Spam Firewall functions. This setting must be enabled for
Quarantine to work. "Yes" is recommended.

Password This preference allows you to change your password. Set this to your regular e-mail/network password the first time you login to the Barracuda Spam Firewall.
