Principal's Welcome Letter & Mission Statement

Welcome returning and new Coyote families. My name is Kara Backman and this will be my 18th year in the education field, working as a teacher, administrator and education consultant. This will by my second year as the principal at Denair High School. My husband, James, and I have three amazing children, Kade, Kash and Jacee. Kade and Kash will be returning to DECA in the dual immersion program as a first-grader and kindergartner. Jacee will be returning to Turlock Christian in the 2-year-old class. My family is deeply rooted in the Denair community where our business is located. I am passionate about youth first, giving back to your community and purposefully growing your mindset through life-altering relationships.

As we build our year together, we will focus on three things:

  • Provide opportunities for all students at Denair High School

  • Prepare all students for career and college readiness -- academically, socially and emotionally

  • Provide rigorous instruction and extracurricular activities available for 100% of the students rooted deeply in life-altering relationships built by staff members

We have been relentless about creating a culture of learning for our students by hiring highly qualified teachers, some of whom will serve as coaches for our resurgent sports teams. Additionally, we are building our ag and band programs. We have created a partnership with Modesto Junior College that allows us to offer classes that meet the 2+2 articulation requirements in both agriculture and criminal science. In other words, the more classes students take in ag and criminal justice, the more college credits they attain at high school graduation. You will notice additions to our academic culture such as new curriculum, four Chromebook carts and athletic materials.

Please take a moment to check out our attached staff list introducing all of our inspirational staff members.

Thank you for giving me this opportunity of partnership. I am excited the places we will go!
