Welcome to Special Education

Denair Unified School District provides special education and related services to eligible students with disabilities. We offer services in all school sites.

What is special education?

Special education is instruction that is specially designed to meet the unique needs of children who have disabilities. Special education and related services are provided in public school at no cost to the parents and include special instruction in the classroom, at home, in hospitals or institutions, or in other settings.

Children may receive instruction that is specially designed:

  • to meet his or her unique needs (that result from having a disability); and
  • to help the child learn the information and skills that other children are learning in the general education curriculum.

What is an IEP?

The acronym IEP stands for Individualized Education Program. This is a written document that describes the educational program designed to meet a child's individual neds. Every child who receives special education must have an IEP.

The IEP has two general purposes: (1) to set learning goals for your child; and (2) to state the supports and services that the school will provide for your child.
