A Message From the Principal

Dear DMS Students & Families:

My name is Amanda Silva and I will be your principal as of the 2018/2019 school year. I feel honored and excited to get to know you and build relationships with all of you...! I have been in the field of education for approximately 18 years. I began my journey as an educator in Child Development and Early Childhood Education, and later earned my Special Education Credential. I was a teacher in a classroom for students with Autism for many years, and consequently became the Assistant Director of Special Education for DUSD.

My family and I began bleeding purple long before I was able to transition to a Coyote as my day job. We became a part of the community eight years ago when my boys started playing for the Denair Youth Football Program. We fell in love with the close-knit community and small town feel.

The youth sports program taught my children many important lessons: how to persevere in the face of adversity-running a super lap for the first time, how to become a team player-putting the needs of the team above their own wants, and primarily-how to contribute and give back to the community that nurtured them and cared for them throughout their youth. We have a strong sense of family and a strong sense of community. You’ll probably see us every Saturday during football season at the football field, volunteering as Junior Coaches, helping out in the snack bar or queuing up each squad’s intro music in the sound booth. Like the teachers of Denair, the coaches gave individualized attention to my children and taught them so much more than the fundamentals of football.

The Silva family has one Denair High alum-graduating class of 2017, and six children currently enrolled in DUSD. We’re excited to see every one of them cross the various stages that await them throughout their educational career. I’m excited to grow and learn along with the students and staff at Denair Middle School. Thank you for the opportunity to positively impact you and your family. Most importantly: thank you for the opportunity to give back to the community of Denair.
